The Red Poll is a native English breed. Having been originally bred in Suffolk and Norfolk, the breed was developed to produce good dairy produce while also being able to fatten well, rather than being simply oversized.
The name comes from the fact that the cattle are all naturally 'Polled', i.e. Red Poll cattle are all without horns, with a deep red colour to their coat. Red Polls can also be characterised by the light coloured noses.
Red Poll cattle, as with all cattle in the United Kingdom, are each tracked with their own passport, which goes with them throughout their lives
